This is my excellent tasting and ultra healthy spinach smoothie recipe. This green classic is featured in Ring Fit Adventure, Nintendo’s new fitness game for the Switch.

The spinach smoothie is a great way to get bonus dark green leaf nutrition, while hiding the maybe not loved taste of green leaves. In this case, spinach, or baby spinach, is easily blended into a refreshing fruit combo that is naturally sweet and perfect for a pre, mid, or post workout drink.

It can even be a perfect meal!

There are potentially infinite numbers of spinach based smoothies one can make. I, alone, have about ten variations I make here and there. So, to narrow it down for you, and make it SUPER, I will present a simple tasty one, with optional additions.

How To Make the SUPER Spinach Smoothie

To make a smoothie, just need the right ingredients, just like in Ring Fit Adventure! You also need a blender, and a few moments of your time, and electricity.

Ingredients

SUPER Spinach Smoothie
prep: <5 minutes
cook: <5 minutes
needs: blender
serves: 1-2

4 cups spinach
2 bananas (peeled)
1-2 medium oranges (peeled) or 1/2 cup Orange juice
1-2 medium apples (cored) or 1/2 cup Apple Juice
1 cup water
1 tsp. lemon juice or half lemon

Optional though emphasized:
1 tsp. Matcha green tea
1 Tb. chia seeds

Instructions

Easy.

  1. Grab a blender.
  2. Peel oranges if needed, core apples if needed. Peel the bananas.
  3. Put all of the liquids in the blender: water, juices (if used), then blend.
  4. Add the bananas and fruits. Blend.
  5. Add spinach. Blend as long as preferred. Done.
The reason I do this order is for speed. What seems like 3 steps in fact assures me that the leaves get blended faster and works faster on my blender.
  6. Additions: add all optional ingredients then blend to conclude.
  7. Or just do it like in the video below.

Now drink! Super charge your health!

Nutritional Value

The Super Spinach Smoothie will heal 2 of your hearts in game, making it great to have on hand during a difficult challenge. But what about in real life?

I used the Happy Forks recipe analyzer for the nutrition facts of this smoothie. It is the easiest and most specific calculator I could find for whole recipes. But none can be totally accurate. For example, Nutritionix calculator shows that 4 cups of spinach contains 17 g of dietary fiber. So which one is it?

Either way, I hope you are ready for this.

What Makes My Recipe Different

One way to make this recipe different and even healthier is to add Matcha green tea powder and chia seeds.

Matcha powder has a specific flavor, caffeine, and is high in antioxidants. For nutrition facts, click here.

Chia seeds have a specific texture and a lot of fiber, antioxidants, iron, and calcium, and major Omega-3s. For nutrition facts, click here.

Both are highly nutritious and complete my ULTRA super spinach smoothie. I suggest you try them both!

The Smoothie Fiber Concern

As talked about in my article , The 4 + 1 Healthiest Eating Tips for Gamers, fiber helps regulate the body’s use of sugars, which helps keeping your hunger and blood sugar balanced. What does this have to do with smoothies?

A growing concern of mine over the years has to do with how much fiber is removed during the blending stage of making a smoothie. It won’t show in the nutrition facts, either.

Tom Philpott over at Mother Jones, did a little research into this himself in the great article We Don’t Mean To Ruin Smoothies, But… He talks to those in the know about how much fiber is lost due to blending of a smoothie.

It is inconclusive but yields some interesting information. It’s also past the scope of this article, but should still be a concern worth noting.

I’m Not A Smoothie

If you know me, you know I promote natural and will be totally honest with you. This smoothie is amazing in taste and nutrition, but I feel it is probably healthier in its natural form.

That means you take those ingredients and eat them raw. Open that hatch peeps, chew that spinach, and eat them fruits in their natural structure.

And while I list fruit juice in the recipe. I don’t suggest EVER drinking fruit juice to the afore mentioned fiber issue.

So then why did I use it here? Well because you don’t have to see things like I do and that is fine. Having juice on hand speeds the prep time up, and is especially beneficial if the fruit is out of season or you don’t want to go to the store.

Enjoy Your Healthy Drink!

A smoothie is a great way to make a quick nutritious snack or meal and is perfect for gamers, especially due to its portability and speedy make speed. The SUPER spinach smoothie is about as healthy as you can eat, filled with many vitamins and minerals we need to be healthy.

If it works in Ring Fit Adventure, it can work in real life too. Right?

What kind of smoothies do you like?
